Keeping in Touch: The Hard Way

4

Everyone has heard the old adage that long-distance relationships never work. Now I know this cliché is intended to apply to romantic relationships continued over a vast distance (LDRs, if you will, for simplicity's sake), but the same is true for the majority of my relationships- platonic and otherwise. If I do not see a person regularly, chances are that I do not speak with him regularly either.

In Defense of Lindsay Lohan

So. Lindsay Lohan is going to jail.

In the ruling made Tuesday, Lohan was sentenced to 90 days in jail followed by 90 days in a rehab facility as punishment for failing to complete her court appointed alcohol education classes and setting off her SCRAM bracelet, as well as skipping just about every other hearing she was supposed to be at since her two DUI arrests in 2007.

¿Tu Hablas Espanol?

As surprising as it might seem, America has no official language. English is obviously the main language spoken within the country (seeing as how you are reading this article right now), but it is not official on any kind of federal level. Various proposals have been made throughout the years to make English the official language of the U.S. but none have become law. I would like to make a proposal of me own: to make America officially bilingual.

The Herbivore's Fascination

I have to start this post with a disclaimer: I am a vegetarian. I have not eaten meat for almost five years and I do not plan to do so for many more years. I don't mind if other people eat meat, but I personally find it repulsive. In fact, I occasionally have a reoccurring nightmare in which I am forced to eat hamburgers as punishment for misdeeds. Read into that what you will, but I hate the idea of eating meat so much that I wake up in cold sweats just subconsciously thinking about it.

The Odd Girl Out on the Field

With the beginning of the World Cup last week, the ongoing U.S. Open in golf, and last night's Game 7 of the NBA Finals, it is a big time for the sports world. Lots of the bars around my house are opening up extra early to make sure they show all of the World Cup games and have been staying open extra late to accommodate the abnormally large Tuesday crowds who show up to cheer for the Celts. It's difficult not to get swept up in the excitement, but it is equally as hard to be taken seriously as a sports fan as a girl. Especially in a town like Boston.
