Facebook's New Features: Helpful or Creepy?
Submitted by Hillary on Tue, 11/09/2010 - 12:30Facebook’s wall-to-wall feature, which allowed a Facebook user to see conversations between two friends, has now been replaced with a clickable link that reads “see friendship.” Clicking on this link enables you to not only view a conversation between two people (wall posts as well as picture, link and note comments), but a person can also see every picture the two are tagged in, mutual as well as common friendships, groups and pages they both like and even events they have attended together.
My only question to Facebook- why?
Internet Anonymity: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Submitted by Hillary on Tue, 10/26/2010 - 12:28The internet provides us with certain degrees of anonymity. For instance, it’s really easy for any of us to go on YouTube, make an account with a random username and then comment on any video of our choosing. Same goes for online message boards, news sites, Yahoo Answers and a variety of other outlets that allow people to post anonymously or with a username.
Oh SNAP! College Kids and Food Stamps
Submitted by Hillary on Tue, 10/19/2010 - 12:30Have you ever been in the grocery store checkout line and have seen people pay with a colorful card that is neither a credit nor debit card? In Michigan this card is called the Bridge Card and it is part of The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formally known as food stamps. Through this program, people who are at near-poverty incomes are supposed to be the only ones who qualify to be given monthly food allowances, however, currently there has been a significant rise in college students utilizing the SNAP program.
Teenage Pregnancy, the Newest Reality Star
Submitted by Hillary on Tue, 10/12/2010 - 12:30If any show on MTV is my guilty pleasure it would have to be either World of Jenks or The Buried Life, for both shows stray away from the common MTV theme of, for lack of a better word, trash TV aimed at teenagers, and focus on living life to the fullest extent (Buried Life) and walking in another’s shoes (Jenks). However, MTV still manages to dumb down its television content with shows like Jersey Shore and Teen Mom. I will not even attempt to address Jersey Shore, which would only result in a steaming rant with no substance.
My Grandmother, the Hero
Submitted by Hillary on Tue, 10/05/2010 - 12:30Most people have heroes in their lives, heck I even remember there being a category on MySpace that let you describe who you consider a hero. (Remember MySpace? It’s that social networking site that was created before Facebook.)
