About Daphane

april asuncionDaphane Johnson is the “Independent City Girl” that everyone wants to know.  A natural-born explorer, Daphane thrives on discovery.  She was physically raised in Alexandria, VA, but her mind was always traveling beyond the visible domestic boundaries.   At an early age Daphane knew she wanted to travel and meet as many people as possible.  She just had a genuine love for people and their life stories.   As part of a military family, she was afforded the opportunity to travel internationally at an early age.   This was probably one of the most important times in her life and was instrumental in the development of the person she is today.   After graduation from college, Daphane flexed her independence and followed her dream of moving to New York City.

New York City is truly the crossroads of the world.   In addition to advancing her cultural discovery, Daphane was able to pursue her acting career while making strides in the corporate world.  Acting is a passion that Daphane shares whenever and wherever possible.  “It offers me the chance to walk in someone else’s shoes and tell a story that might otherwise not be heard.” Daphane has appeared in a number of TV and movie productions and is still in pursuit of her breakout role.  That journey has also led her to chronicle what has happened along the way.

When she is not acting, writing, or taking on a project of some sort, Daphane is an advocate.  Diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease(Lymphoma), in 2007, she is currently in remission and feeling great.  It is the biggest milestone of my life…I’m here.  Daphane shares her story with other young adults and draws strength from the experience.  She credits her faith in God, love of family, and overall positive mental attitude and outlook for her health today.  Daphane is currently working on her first novel that chronicles her journey and hopes to have it published in 2010.  She also maintains a blog of her most interesting life in the city:  www.independentcitygirl.com.

Every day she recites a quote from Henry David Thoreau, “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you’ve imagined.”
