Facebook's New Features: Helpful or Creepy?

Facebook’s wall-to-wall feature, which allowed a Facebook user to see conversations between two friends, has now been replaced with a clickable link that reads “see friendship.” Clicking on this link enables you to not only view a conversation between two people (wall posts as well as picture, link and note comments), but a person can also see every picture the two are tagged in, mutual as well as common friendships, groups and pages they both like and even events they have attended together.
 
My only question to Facebook- why?
 
I am having a hard time comprehending why this change was found necessary to the masterminds behind Facebook. Usually it seems like a change is made in order to make visiting the site easier and more user-friendly. The only thing that this change has made easier is a person’s ability to stalk Facebook users.
 
The wall-to-wall feature itself almost seemed like too much information. Why should someone who is not those two friends be able to access years of communication between the two users? What could they possibly want with this information, besides being overly nosey?
 
I really don’t think anything good can possibly come with this change. I believe Facebook friendships in a sense, should resemble real friendships, however there is at times a huge discrepancy between a Facebook friend and a real friend. While sometimes a person is both, other times we friend request people who we never plan to spend time with in real life or have meaningful conversations with. Instead they are simply acquaintances, taking the meaning of friendship to a much lower, less personal level.
 
If we remember our conversations between friends, along with what events we attended together and have knowledge of every mutual acquaintance, then great, we must have fantastic memory skills, however, there is no reason this information should be provided to us. To me it seems like the people who Facebook thinks will be utilizing this, won’t see a point in it and instead the stalkers and creepers of Facebook will be in stalker-creeper heaven with information overload.
 
Facebook engineer, Wayne Kao, commented about his company’s newest feature in a Facebook blog.  He wrote “One of my favorite Facebook moments is browsing photos from friends in the news feed after they've begun a new relationship, gotten engaged or gotten married. It gives me a fun and meaningful glimpse of the friendship between two people I know.  I realized that a similarly magical experience was possible if all of the photos and posts between two friends were brought together. You'd remember that first Wall post with your best friend or the funny photo from a night out. You may even see that moment when your favorite couple met at a party you all attended.”
 
Forbes Magazine put it best when they wrote “this is going to cut out a lot of work for those people who use Facebook to track the relationships between two people (i.e., jealous significant others, nosy parents, or reporters tracking down the identity of a Christine O’Donnell paramour).” That, it seems, is a perfect example of why not to create this new feature. If its key selling point is to make stalking easier (which, you have to admit, does sound like its key selling point) that definitely sounds like a perfect reason not to make it available to mass consumers
 
Mark Zuckerberg and his co-founders have created a social networking phenomenon utilized by over 500 million people. That is no easy feat, however if they want to keep succeeding, I would suggest less changes that jeopardize users’ privacy.
