No Issues

To answer the question, has being a female hurt my career??...
I can truthfully say that I’ve been blessed by not having to face any opposition in the workforce because of my gender.
At my job, there are essentially equal amounts of female employees as men – each playing their own unique role. Being in the creative industry is colorless and genderless; therefore, If you can get the job done and at the highest quality for the best rate, you’re golden!
Also, I’ve never had to experience harassment within the workplace, which is nice….I don’t know what I’d do if I felt that I was being hassled or taken advantage of just because I was a female. I can only imagine how difficult that must be for those who are placed in that situation, being that times are tough and jobs are scarce. On the other hand, if one did leave, such an incident could be placed on one’s employee record forever, making one a “high-risk” employee given that no employer would want to deal with the risk of future issues or law suits (even if one is the victim).
Has being a female helped my career??...
Well…thus far it’s treated me well. How so? Easy - I feel empowered by being a woman. I feel that I have more tools to work with and can bring more to the table by being a woman. For instance, socializing at networks events isn’t twice as hard as a woman as it is for a man, being that naturally, women tend to be more physically appealing and approachable. Thus, most women don’t have a problem communicating with other individuals, man or woman alike, because they can relate to other women and can be alluring to men. Hey…just being honest! LOL
In addition, women are known to be great problem solvers and multi-taskers. I feel that this is so true to most of the women in my life, being that we all tend to LIVE for puzzles and consistently think of ways to improve or go about doing something better. I’ve also noticed that we can also handle a lot of different tasks at one time. Sorry men…but it seems that women have an upper hand when it comes to multi-tasking.
So, in closing, I’d have to say that being a woman in my industry has not been a deterrent, but an enhancement. Women ROCK!
