Above, Below, & Beyond

While in recent years I have been more inclined to focus on the tasks and goals of day to day life, this week’s Sorbate topic has afforded me the opportunity to indulge in some long overdue daydreaming. With that said, my top three fantasy travel destinations, in no particular order, are below.

Ireland: While my lineage could probably be most aptly described as “Euro-Mutt,” my surname and the proudest portion of my heritage is Irish. Of particular interest to me in Ireland are the historical sites and castles that carry so much history. I did at least a few research papers and school projects based on Ireland’s history in high school and college, and would be ecstatic to see the inspiration for those works first hand. While many locales in Europe hold great historical significance, Ireland’s rolling green hills might hold a special appeal for how they relate to my own family’s history.

The Deep Sea: As long as we are calling travel restrictions and money no object, it would be my greatest desire to visit the depths of the ocean. For someone who has never lived within two hours of a beach, I have always carried an intense fascination for the ocean and what might possibly lie in its depths. While life never seems to take you on the path you would expect, my career goal at one point was to become a marine biologist. The exciting thing about the ocean’s depths is that we know so little about them. While much of mankind is enamored with discovering the mysteries of outer-space, there are still millions of undiscovered species and square feet of ocean right here on earth that are still yet to be explored.

Montana: While my last fantasy locale may seem a little more mundane, at any given moment I would be happy to go back home to Montana. Montana is the state in which I was born, and while I didn’t live there for long, it’s the place where most of my family comes from and, in most cases, where they still reside. A lot of my fondest memories were made in “big sky country,” and while most of my life has been spent with primarily my immediate family, I always feel a sense of belonging to our extended family when I return to the state of my birth. Although it holds a special place in my own heart, Montana’s beauty would not be lost on a stranger. The majestic mountaintops and deep clear waters, combined with the starry night sky, are great fuel for the imagination of anyone who might want to forget about the paved cityscapes and technologically-dependent lifestyle of the city and reconnect with the simple beauty of nature.

hmm, interesting choices. I

hmm, interesting choices. I also really want to go to Ireland, because I heard that it's beautiful. Compared to other places in Europe such as France or England, Ireland is a little more obscure. This obscurity might just well be part of the reason why Ireland is appealing other than the fact that it's supposed to be very pretty.
