More Than Just Glam at the Emmy's
Submitted by Erin on Mon, 08/30/2010 - 12:30Las night was the 62nd annual Emmy awards and among the smiling couples and gorgeous gowns, an award was presented that had nothing to do with acting or writing or producing. George Clooney became the fourth recipient of the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award, created in 2002 by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Blots of Words and the Stain of Self-Doubt

Submitted by Betsey on Fri, 07/30/2010 - 12:30Okay, okay- so as cliché as it sounds I have to admit- I am baby-crazy. Whenever I am walking down the street, shopping in a store, watching a TV show, sitting in a park- all I notice are babies. Pretty boys, breathtaking girls, standout dressers- all passersby do not warrant my glance or consideration, save for babies. I notice every single baby in my vicinity, regardless of any and all inordinate circumstances. Yet I am confident in my knowledge that I am in no way ready to have a baby of my own. So how does this make sense? I ask myself on an almost daily basis.
The "Carpe Diem" Cliche
Submitted by Chloe on Wed, 07/28/2010 - 12:30Every time I hear “carpe diem,” or any message related to “seize the day,” I shudder at its utter cliché quality. My problem doesn’t lie in the message’s meaning, but in the fact that that it’s just too short. The phrase does not even demand explanation, and so people just schlep it around like nobody’s business. Without an explanation, I don’t feel any substance in the meaning of “carpe diem.” But despite my aversion to this well-worn cliché, I have created my own explanation of “carpe diem” that I actually like. In other words, personalizing a way to think about an old cliché has made the cliché meaningful and persuasive.

Submitted by Hillary on Tue, 07/27/2010 - 12:30There are many amazing movies in the drama genre that some aren’t too familiar with. A significant amount of movies are put out each year that many people don’t know about because they weren’t advertised like the million dollar blockbusters we see during commercial breaks.
