Alcohol More Lethal Than Hard Drugs
Submitted by Ericka on Thu, 11/04/2010 - 12:30When I think of the most lethal drugs to stay away from, cocaine, heroin and meth automatically pop in my mind. They’re highly addictive, easily detrimental to your health and not to mention illegal. In a recent London study, these drugs definitely made the list, but didn’t rank as high in their all-around lethalness as something millions of Americans are much more familiar with: alcohol.
Pinkwashing: The Downside of "Breast Cancer Awareness" Month
Submitted by Jerri on Tue, 10/12/2010 - 12:29On the aisles of a local store, one can’t really ignore the proliferation of pink packaged products, all lined up and ready to help consumers “help” breast cancer research. The pink ribbon and the pinkness of everything around October is seemingly done up with good intentions. After all, it’s to help promote awareness; a portion of your proceeds when you purchase that pink ribbon item is going toward a charity of some sort. Right?
How staring at cleavage can help men's health
Submitted by Ericka on Thu, 09/23/2010 - 12:30Health-there’s no question that society has a love/hate mentality towards what it takes to be healthy. Every day there’s an article on topics like the ten best fat burning foods and five best ab workouts. On the flip side there are the nationwide obesity rankings (California ranks 23rd for 2009 according to americashealthrankings.org) and the red flags on the hefty portion sizes we’ve become accustomed too. It seems like many of us are in a constant battle with the health nut and the oh-so-happy-to-super-size-it-all food feind inside us.
The Consequences of Singularity
Submitted by Julie on Tue, 07/13/2010 - 12:29While researching technological singularity this week, I kept finding myself barely able to comprehend the concept. This is not surprising in light of the fact that Singularity is based on the idea that technology will one day become so advanced that we cannot predict or fathom its future capabilities and how they will change the world. The easiest way I found to interpret Singularity is to look at novels, television shows, and films that have toyed with its implications. The Outer Limits, I, Robot, The Matrix, and Artificial Intelligence all imagine a future where technology has matched or surpassed human ability.

Singularity
Submitted by Renee on Tue, 07/13/2010 - 12:28In looking towards the future of technology, Singularity University as well as the work associated, has been increasingly featured in the media. But what is Singularity University? Is it actually a place? Who goes there? Not students surely. The following is a brief introduction to Singularity University as well as the topics they seek to explore.
