The Sorbate: Is There A God?
There is a God If You Want There To Be
Submitted by Angela on Tue, 08/04/2009 - 12:30
When I was little, I used to get dressed up in frilly dresses and shiny white shoes to go to church. I looked forward to seeing my grandparents and other friends and family, and listening to the choir sing. The only problem was, most of the time I didn’t understand very much—we always attended Spanish mass. As hard as I tried to learn the language, I never really caught on. We moved to a predominately white neighborhood when I was four and after that it was difficult to learn because I didn’t have to.

Ever wonder how your body can fall asleep, like literally lie dormant for hours…but yet wake itself up every morning??
Ever wonder how it came to be that the Earth is distanced far enough from the sun, therefore providing the PERFECT amount of light to warm and illuminate the earth??
Ever wonder how the ocean (which covers 71% of the Earth) knows to stop at its shores, therefore allowing life to exist above water??

The Million Dollar Question: "Is There A God?"
Submitted by Kristin on Tue, 08/04/2009 - 12:28
This week’s topic: “Is there a God?” I don’t think there is a more controversial question than this one. This issue is so complex that people around the world are dying because they believe their God and religion is somehow superior. Religious wars have been fought throughout history, think of the crusades or today’s Jihad. Countless people dying and killing in the name of God. What happened to love thy neighbor?
There IS a God

It would be hard to categorize this as a debate of religion. In the course of this discussion, I am not limiting the definition of God to a specific religious belief. To me, it is unavoidable not to personally believe in a higher power or force that brought everything in existence including ourselves. If I think about how we were created, theories like the organic soup or big bang theory doesn’t exactly answer a lot of the important questions related to the hows and the whys of our creation. Why were we created? What was the purpose of our existence? How is it that everything fell in to place? It seems that there is a design that keeps things in fluid motion. The great scheme of things, or the grand architecture of life, as many people describe it.

Your Belief That god Exists = Killing Your Daughter?!
Submitted by Christina on Tue, 08/04/2009 - 12:26
Does god exist?
(Yes, I am using lowercase g when I write "god".)
Maybe this isn't the question to ask. I am a scientist, and I have a hard time believing anything I don't have tangible (or mathematical) proof of. And, disclaimer: I am agnostic. I don't know if there is a god or not, I just think you should be a good person and do good things for others, end of story (not just because you fear something bad will happen to you in the afterlife). I think a better question is, what should you do about it? Let's say you don't think god exists - does that mean you can do whatever you want without regard for life/feelings/right or wrong? No, of course not. On the other hand, if you do believe in god, should you abandon common knowledge to put everything in his hands? Or worse, kill in his name?
