Did you know that February is Heart Health Month? And that today is National Wear Red Day?
 
National Wear Red Day is held on the first Friday in February each year to show support for women's heart disease awareness. Here are some interesting facts to help kick off the day:
 

  • 1 in 30 American women will die of breast breast cancer but 1 in 3 will die from cardiovascular disease.
  • 1 in 5 females in the U.S. have some form of heart disease.
  • African-American and Mexican-American women have higher heart disease and stroke risk factors than white women of comparable socioeconomic status.
  • Risk factors you cannot change: Family history, age, race/ethnicity.
  • Risk factors you CAN change: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, being overweight.
  • Heart disease claims more women’s lives than the next 8 causes of deaths combined . . . including breast cancer.
